Google built arguably the most impressive AI research lab on the planet. Now it’s watching that lab’s best minds walk out the door, and investors are not handling it well. Alphabet’s stock dropped roughly 5% on June 22, 2026, its worst single-day performance in over a year. The trigger: a cascade of departures from Google DeepMind that reads like a who’s-who of artificial intelligence research.
