Anthropic warns of uncertain legal risks from rogue AI agents in IPO prospectus

Anthropic just told potential investors something most AI companies would rather keep quiet: its AI agents might go rogue, and the company isn’t sure what happens legally when they do. In its IPO prospectus filed on September 29, 2026, Anthropic disclosed that autonomous AI agents, systems capable of acting independently and accessing external infrastructure, could expose the company to legal claims it may not be able to fully defend against. The filing acknowledged that existing contractual liability limits might not be enforceable or wholly adequate to protect the company from the fallout.
