Apple enters chatbot race with upgraded Siri capabilities, and crypto’s AI narrative just got more crowded

Apple just did something it almost never does: admitted it was behind. The company unveiled Siri AI at WWDC26 on June 8, 2026, a ground-up rebuild of the voice assistant it first launched with the iPhone 4S back in 2011. The new version features conversational dialogue, personal context awareness pulled from user messages, and web-based answers, essentially turning Siri from a glorified timer-setter into something that actually competes with ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude. What Apple actually announced The new Siri, internally codenamed Project Campos, isn’t just a software patch. Apple is branding it as an “entirely new version” of the assistant, complete with a dedicated app for conversation history and enhanced onscreen awareness that lets it understand what you’re looking at on your device.
