Aztec Network wants to be quantum-proof by the end of 2030. The privacy-focused Ethereum Layer 2 laid out that goal in a post-quantum security roadmap published on October 15, 2026. The plan has two layers. Aztec controls the first one. The second depends on Ethereum itself, which has its own priorities and its own schedule. What Aztec is actually promising The first concrete deliverable lands in February 2027. That is when Aztec plans to ship hardened developer libraries alongside improved off-the-shelf contract patterns. Contracts on the network are written in Noir, Aztec’s programming language, and cover both public and private state. The main threat these libraries target is known as a harvest-now-decrypt-later attack. An attacker collects encrypted data today, stores it, and waits. Once quantum computers become capable enough, the attacker cracks it open at leisure. For a privacy network, that risk is pointed. Data posted to a public blockchain does not disappear. If it is encrypted with methods that age badly, today’s confidential transaction becomes tomorrow’s open book. The milestones between now and 2030 After the February 2027 libraries, Aztec has proposed two further che...
