Barcelona eyes Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven for 2026 summer move

Barcelona has zeroed in on Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Micky van de Ven as a primary defensive target for the 2026 summer transfer window. The 25-year-old Dutchman has reportedly stalled on contract extension discussions with Spurs, opening a crack that Barcelona is keen to exploit.

The Puyol connection and stalled talks

Van de Ven’s interest in Barcelona isn’t just about chasing a bigger brand. The defender is reportedly a lifelong admirer of Carles Puyol, Barcelona’s iconic captain. Harry Redknapp has noted that van de Ven would likely relish the chance to follow in Puyol’s footsteps at the Catalan club.

Van de Ven has reportedly declined recent discussions about extending his stay at Tottenham, with Barcelona listed as his preferred destination.

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi considers van de Ven a key player and has publicly stated the club has no intention of selling him.

What would it cost?

Reports estimate the potential transfer fee for van de Ven could reach around €80 million. That’s a significant premium over Transfermarkt’s current valuation of €50 million, but Tottenham’s leverage, a contract with three years remaining, justifies the markup.

Van de Ven joined Tottenham from Wolfsburg in August 2023 and quickly became one of the Premier League’s most exciting defenders. He is a left-footed centre-back comfortable playing out from the back.

No formal bids have been submitted to Tottenham as of mid-June 2026. Liverpool is also reportedly interested in signing van de Ven, which could complicate Barcelona’s plans.
