Bayern Munich explores Marcus Rashford deal but pivots amid wage concerns

Bayern Munich kicked the tires on a summer move for Marcus Rashford, only to cool their interest once the price tag came into sharper focus. The German club explored a potential deal valued at roughly £34.5 million (€30 million), but Rashford’s wage demands of approximately £325,000 per week have pushed Bayern toward alternative targets.

What happened with Bayern’s interest

Rashford spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Barcelona, where he managed to rediscover some of the form that once made him one of the Premier League’s most exciting young attackers. That loan spell caught Bayern’s attention, with reports surfacing in early June 2026 that the club was considering a move.

Discussions never progressed to the formal bidding stage. Bayern’s reluctance stems primarily from wage structure compatibility issues. There’s also the question of playing time. Bayern’s attacking roster already includes the likes of Michael Olise and Luis Díaz, meaning Rashford wouldn’t walk into a guaranteed starting role.

Rashford, for his part, appears to have his own preferences. He’s reportedly more interested in securing a permanent return to Barcelona than making the move to Bavaria.

The bigger picture for Bayern’s summer plans

Manchester United, meanwhile, find themselves in a familiar position with Rashford. The forward remains one of their highest-paid players, and his future at Old Trafford has been uncertain for well over a year now.

Barcelona’s interest in making Rashford’s loan permanent adds another layer to this. The Catalan club has its own well-documented financial challenges, and absorbing Rashford’s wages on a long-term deal would require some creative accounting.
