Arthur Theate is heading back to Bologna. The Italian club has reached a verbal agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt to bring the Belgian centre-back back to Serie A on a loan deal that includes a €15 million buy option and a 15% sell-on clause. It’s a homecoming of sorts. Theate first made his name at Bologna during the 2021-22 season, and now the 25-year-old defender is circling back to where things clicked. The deal structure The arrangement is a loan with a buy option. The €15 million purchase clause is notable when you consider that Eintracht Frankfurt signed Theate permanently in February 2025 for a reported €13 million with potential add-ons reaching €6 million. So Frankfurt could turn a profit without Theate ever suiting up for them on a permanent basis. The 15% sell-on clause gives them a stake in any future transfer fee if Bologna eventually moves Theate on. For a player whose contract with Frankfurt runs until 2029, this isn’t a fire sale.
