Changpeng Zhao’s April Fools’ Joke Highlights Wild Crypto Odds

2 days ago 2

He jokingly suggested the idea of someone randomly generating a wallet address used for token burns – something that would permanently remove tokens from circulation.

CZ’s post sparked curiosity in the crypto community. Trust Wallet, Binance’s non-custodial wallet provider, joined in on the joke, simply replying, “Happy April Fool’s Day.”

While the idea sounds absurd, it’s technically possible. In theory, someone could generate a wallet address matching “0x000…dead” using software like Trust Wallet. But the odds are beyond slim.

To put it in perspective, Ethereum wallet addresses are created using cryptographic hashing functions that produce 160-bit outputs. That means there are 2¹⁶⁰ possible Ethereum addresses – an unimaginably large number. The chances of generating the exact burn address randomly are as good as winning the lottery multiple times in a row.

CZ’s joke entertained the crypto space, but it also highlighted the complexity of blockchain cryptography. While every address is theoretically possible, some are so rare they might as well be myths.

For now, crypto users will have to keep burning tokens the traditional way.
