OpenAI could soon let users lock ChatGPT conversations behind a PIN or fingerprint, according to evidence found by Android Authority in the latest Android app build. The in-development feature would allow saved chats to remain accessible while keeping their titles and contents hidden from the sidebar, chat history and ChatGPT search results. The proposed system would offer a middle ground between normal chats and Temporary Chats. Temporary Chats disappear from history and cannot be revisited through the usual chat list, while locked chats would remain saved and could be reopened after authentication. Once opened, a locked chat would remain locked rather than becoming permanently visible, unless the user chooses to turn it back into a regular conversation. Locked chats also appear set to receive their own Memory sandbox. They could access existing memories from regular and locked conversations, while new information learned from locked chats would only be used to personalize other locked chats and would not flow into regular conversations.
