Circle, the company behind the USDC stablecoin, has published a roadmap for what it calls “agentic features,” a set of infrastructure tools designed to let AI agents operate as sellers in digital commerce. The short-term plan centers on four pillars: identity, reputation, validation, and trusted discovery. Put simply, Circle wants to give AI agents the digital equivalent of a business license, a Yelp rating, and a spot in the Yellow Pages, all at once. What Circle is actually building The roadmap tackles a problem that sounds abstract until you think about it for more than ten seconds. If AI agents are going to sell goods, services, or digital products on behalf of businesses or autonomously, other agents and human buyers need some way to know who they’re dealing with. Identity answers the question “who is this agent?” Not in a philosophical sense, but in a practical one. Can the agent prove it represents a specific business or protocol? Is there a verifiable credential attached to it? Reputation builds on identity by creating a track record.
