Brian Armstrong wants you to know that AI isn’t coming for crypto’s lunch. It’s ordering more food. The Coinbase CEO took to X on July 26 to lay out his case that artificial intelligence doesn’t diminish cryptocurrency’s relevance. Quite the opposite: he argues AI makes crypto more important than ever, framing blockchain infrastructure as the financial plumbing that autonomous agents will eventually depend on to function. “AI being a megatrend takes nothing away from crypto. If anything, it makes crypto more important.” The argument is straightforward, even if the implications are enormous. AI agents, the autonomous software programs that can browse the web, negotiate deals, and execute tasks without human intervention, will need to move money. And they’ll need to do it fast, programmatically, and without waiting for a bank to open on Monday morning.
