Coinbase enables crypto derivatives trading for Canadian investors

Coinbase just opened the derivatives door in Canada. As of September 2, the exchange’s subsidiary Coinbase Financial Markets (CFM) is offering regulated crypto futures trading to eligible Canadian clients, making it the first major crypto exchange to bring native crypto futures to the country. The rollout includes 23 perpetual and dated futures contracts spanning Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other digital assets, with leverage up to 10x. Introductory fees start as low as 0.02% per trade plus $0.11 per contract, a pricing structure clearly designed to lure sophisticated traders who have been routing orders through offshore platforms. What’s on the menu The product suite goes beyond simple crypto-to-crypto futures. CFM is offering both perpetual contracts, which have no expiration date and are a staple of crypto trading globally, and dated futures, which settle on a fixed date. Commodity futures round out the lineup. For now, access is limited to sophisticated or institutional clients as defined under Canadian securities law.
