Crypto rules can advance even if the Clarity Act stalls

Crypto regulation can advance even if the Clarity Act fails to pass the Senate this year, as the Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission retain authority to shape an interim framework. President Donald Trump urged crypto and finance executives at the White House to push for the bill, but Senate Democrats are seeking tougher ethics provisions. Crypto stocks extended gains after the meeting. The SEC this week published Regulation Crypto Assets, a rule intended to let new token projects develop without immediate registration burdens. The rule could be changed by a future SEC, but it provides an initial framework while Congress remains deadlocked. CFTC Chairman Mike Selig has suggested regulators could build a framework with industry support. Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Nathan Dean said work begun by the SEC and CFTC could provide several years of greater clarity for crypto platforms, tokens and investors.
