Crystal Palace have locked down a verbal agreement to sign Spanish defender Oscar Mingueza from Celta Vigo on a free transfer. The 27-year-old versatile defender, who can play right-back or center-back, becomes the club’s first signing under new head coach Pierre Sage.
The agreement was reached on July 8, 2026, following what transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano described as a “secret” negotiation.
The deal and why it matters for Palace
Mingueza arrives after a productive 2025-26 campaign at Celta Vigo, where he logged 47 appearances, scored one goal, and provided six assists.
He made 46 appearances and scored twice for Barcelona between 2020 and 2022. He then moved to Celta Vigo, where he racked up 127 appearances and 7 goals across four seasons from 2022 to 2026.
Pierre Sage reportedly sees Mingueza as a versatile piece who can slot into multiple positions across the backline.
