Switzerland just did something it hasn’t done since 1954: win a knockout-stage match at the World Cup. Then it did it again. And again. Dan Ndoye, a 25-year-old winger playing club football for Nottingham Forest, has been at the center of all of it, scoring twice in the tournament, including in a stunning 3-0 quarterfinal victory over Argentina on July 11, 2026.

Ndoye’s contribution across five World Cup appearances now stands at two goals and three assists.

What happened on the pitch

Ndoye opened his World Cup account on July 3 against Algeria in the round of 32, finding the net in the 46th minute to seal a 2-0 win.

Switzerland then navigated a tense round-of-16 clash against Colombia, advancing via penalties. That match was played across July 7-8.

Against Argentina in the quarterfinals, Switzerland didn’t just compete. They dominated. The 3-0 scoreline told the full story: Ndoye scored again. For a nation that had waited 88 years to win a World Cup knockout match, stacking three in a row feels almost greedy.

Ndoye now has 36 caps and 9 international goals for Switzerland. He operates as a right-sided wide forward. At Nottingham Forest, he’s been developing the consistency that international tournaments reward.
