The European Union just put €200 million on the table for Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory with a population smaller than most college towns. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen traveled to Nuuk on September 7 to personally announce the partnership package, a move that carries unmistakable geopolitical subtext given President Donald Trump’s repeated public interest in acquiring the island. The funding, roughly $232 million, is earmarked for 2026 and 2027. It covers digital connectivity, sustainable mining, renewable energy, education, fisheries, tourism, and housing.
