The competitive Counter-Strike 2 scene just got a meaningful shake-up. Europe will send 18 teams to the PGL Singapore Major 2026, gaining one additional slot, while the Americas region drops to 7, losing one in the process.
The reallocation is tied directly to performance in regional qualifiers, with the team Monte’s recent results playing a pivotal role in shifting the balance of power.
What’s happening at the PGL Singapore Major
The PGL Singapore Major 2026 is scheduled for November 25 through December 13, 2026. It carries a $1.25 million prize pool and will feature 32 teams competing across multiple stages.
The tournament format consists of three Swiss-system stages followed by single-elimination playoffs.
This will be the second Counter-Strike 2 Major of 2026 and the first CS2 Major ever held in Southeast Asia. PGL continues to serve as Valve’s primary Major tournament partner for 2026.
The Valve Regional Standings, known as VRS, determine how slots get distributed across regions. The VRS cutoff date is set for November 2, 2026, meaning teams have until then to influence their region’s allocation through competitive results. That’s a notable timing shift from previous Majors, where cutoff dates fell earlier and left less room for late-season performances to matter.
Why the slot redistribution matters
Europe moving to 18 slots out of 32 total means the region now controls more than half of all available berths.
Monte’s performance in regional qualifiers was the specific catalyst for this shift. When a team from one region outperforms expectations, the VRS system recalculates, and slots migrate accordingly.
The VRS cutoff landing on November 2, just weeks before the Major begins on November 25, creates an interesting dynamic. Teams and entire regions can still influence their slot count deep into the competitive calendar. That wasn’t always the case with previous Majors, where the competitive picture was essentially locked in much earlier.
