Everton and Chelsea are closing in on a permanent deal for Tyrique George, with negotiations centered on a transfer fee significantly lower than the £25 million option to buy that was baked into his original loan agreement. The two clubs are reportedly hoping to wrap things up by the end of this week.
George, who turned 20 in February, spent the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan at Goodison Park after joining on February 2. He made 11 appearances without finding the back of the net.
The numbers behind the negotiation
George’s current market value sits at around €20 million according to Transfermarkt. The initial fee being discussed in the current negotiations is set to come in well below the original £25 million option.
George himself has reportedly expressed a desire to stay at Everton rather than return to Chelsea’s squad.
The deal is expected to be finalized somewhere around June 30 to July 4, giving both clubs the chance to sort their books before the new financial reporting period kicks in.
Why Chelsea is willing to sell for less
Chelsea are under pressure to generate revenue through player sales. George, a product of Chelsea’s academy, represents a relatively clean transaction: a homegrown player whose sale would register almost entirely as profit on the books, with minimal amortization to write off against a player developed internally.
George made 12 senior appearances with one goal during his time at Stamford Bridge before the loan to Everton.
What this means for Everton
George is an England U21 international who came through Chelsea’s academy. Everton is committing real money to a player whose contributions during the loan period were, by objective measures, modest, with zero goals in 11 appearances.
Transfer fees in this range often include performance-based add-ons, sell-on clauses, and other mechanisms that shift risk between buyer and seller.
