FC Bayern set to finalize new deal with Konrad Laimer after months of stalled talks

After roughly eight months of negotiations that at times looked like they might go nowhere, FC Bayern Munich and Konrad Laimer have found their number. The Austrian midfielder is close to signing a contract extension that will keep him at the Allianz Arena beyond his current deal’s summer 2027 expiration.

German outlets Kicker and Sky Sport Germany both reported that a broad agreement was reached around June 16-17, 2026, with transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano corroborating the news. An official announcement could follow shortly.

From stalemate to handshake

Talks between Laimer’s camp and Bayern’s front office had stalled earlier in the negotiation window, with the two sides unable to bridge a gap on salary. Initial demands from the player’s side reportedly exceeded €15 million annually, a figure Bayern apparently found too rich for their taste.

Laimer’s new deal is expected to pay him approximately €12 million gross per year, a significant raise from his current salary of around €9 million, roughly a 33% pay bump, which is well below the ceiling his representatives initially floated.

For Laimer, this contract likely represents the last major deal of his prime years. He’s 29 years old.

What Laimer brings to Bayern

Laimer arrived at Bayern from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 and has since racked up 136 appearances for the club. He can press relentlessly, cover ground in transition, and operate effectively in multiple midfield roles.

Before Bayern, Laimer spent years in the Red Bull system, first at Salzburg and then at Leipzig, where he became one of the Bundesliga’s most respected box-to-box midfielders.

What this means for Bayern’s midfield plans

By locking Laimer down now, Bayern removes one potential headache from their summer planning. A player earning €12 million per year at Bayern is expected to compete for regular starts.

The financial structure reflects Bayern’s broader approach to wage management. Jumping from €9 million to €12 million rewards Laimer’s contributions while remaining within a controlled range.
