FC Copenhagen has submitted a bid for Rapid Vienna midfielder Romeo Amane, entering a transfer race that has been quietly heating up across European football this summer.
The move, if confirmed, would pit the Danish Superliga side against a cluster of English Championship clubs who have been circling the 23-year-old for weeks.
Who is Romeo Amane?
Amane was born on February 20, 2003, in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. He joined Rapid Vienna from Swedish club BK Häcken on January 16, 2025, signing a deal that runs through June 30, 2029. That contract length matters. It gives Rapid Vienna significant leverage in any negotiation, meaning any interested club will need to write a serious check rather than wait him out.
His reported market value sits at €5 million, a figure that puts him squarely in the range where Championship clubs can compete but where top-flight interest would quickly change the math.
In his time at Rapid Vienna, Amane has made 32 appearances and scored one goal in league play.
A crowded bidding room
Wrexham AFC, Birmingham City, and Sheffield United are all reportedly competing for Amane’s signature. That trio tells a story in itself.
Wrexham have become one of English football’s most talked-about clubs following their successive promotions, now operating in the Championship with genuine aspirations and Hollywood money backing their ambitions. Birmingham City, returning to the second tier after a difficult stretch, are rebuilding aggressively. Sheffield United, dropping back into the Championship after a rough Premier League season, are trying to reload quickly enough to bounce back up.
All three clubs want midfield reinforcement. All three are operating in a division where transfer budgets have real ceilings. Amane at €5 million is exactly the kind of deal that works for that tier of club.
What this means for Rapid Vienna and the wider market
For Rapid Vienna, this is a good problem to have. A player they brought in from BK Häcken in January 2025 is already attracting multi-club interest less than 18 months later.
With Amane contracted until 2029, Rapid hold all the cards on timing. They can afford to let bids escalate, wait for the right offer, or simply decline and keep a useful midfielder for another season.
