Blockchain investigator ZachXBT revealed that SerpentAU, whose real name remains undisclosed, used hacked social media accounts to promote fake cryptocurrencies. High-profile targets included McDonald’s, singer Usher, and Kabosu meme coin’s creator. Scammers exploited these accounts to lure victims, leading to massive financial losses. A hack of McDonald’s Instagram alone reportedly earned over $690,000 for the group.
Blockchain analysis traced the scam funds to SerpentAU. The investigator connected the stolen money to gambling sites like Stake and Roobet, where the former gamer made large bets. Evidence from leaked Discord screenshots further tied him to wallets used in the fraud.
SerpentAU first faced controversy in 2020 after cheating allegations in Fortnite led to his removal from Overtime Gaming. Despite issuing a public apology, he soon shifted to crypto ventures. His NFT projects, DAPE and ERROR, later collapsed amid accusations of dishonesty.
This case highlights growing risks in crypto, where trust in public figures often leads to exploitation. ZachXBT’s ongoing investigations continue to expose fraud across the blockchain space, forcing the gaming and crypto communities to reassess their safeguards against deceit.
