Fox’s World Cup final draws 39M viewers as sports broadcasting smashes US records

1 hour ago 1

Nearly 39 million Americans tuned into Fox’s broadcast of the World Cup final, making it the most-watched World Cup final in US television history. Add in the 22.6 million viewers who watched on Peacock and Telemundo, and the total audience hit 61.5 million.

The numbers behind the record

Fox Sports pulled 38.9 million average viewers for the final. The combined 61.5 million total across all platforms puts the World Cup final in the same conversational tier as the Super Bowl, which has long been the undisputed king of US live viewership.

English-language viewership on Fox, FS1, and Tubi rose 92% compared to 2022 group-stage numbers.

Earlier in the tournament, the US Men’s National Team’s round-of-16 clash with Belgium drew 30 million viewers, the most-watched soccer telecast in US history at the time. A US group-stage victory pulled in 24.4 million.

What this means for the attention economy

During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, crypto exchanges were still running Super Bowl ads and FIFA had partnerships with blockchain companies. The sector’s visibility in sports has contracted significantly since then, a reflection of the broader market downturn and regulatory scrutiny that followed the collapse of FTX and other major players.

Why crypto investors should care about soccer ratings

Peacock’s inclusion in the 22.6 million combined figure alongside Telemundo underscores how quickly live sports are migrating to digital platforms.

A 92% increase in viewership translates directly into higher ad revenue potential.

Platforms like Chiliz and Socios, which power fan tokens for European soccer clubs, have largely struggled to gain traction in the US market.
