Sergen “BrokenBlade” Çelik just did something you don’t see in professional League of Legends. He locked in Warwick, a champion most associated with low-ranked solo queue, and used it to dismantle one of Korea’s best teams on the international stage.
The G2 Esports top laner pulled out the pick during the MSI 2026 bracket stage on July 5 against Hanwha Life Esports, and the results were, to put it mildly, devastating for HLE’s bot lane. The kind of devastating that generates highlight clips within minutes and makes the entire competitive community collectively raise an eyebrow.
The Warwick factor
BrokenBlade used the champion’s kit to create relentless pressure, eventually “melting” HLE’s bot lane in engagements that left little room for counterplay. Social media reacted about how you’d expect. Highlight clips circulated immediately, with commentary ranging from genuine admiration to disbelief.
What made the performance particularly impressive was the context. This wasn’t a throwaway game in a regional league. MSI is the Mid-Season Invitational, where the best teams from every major region collide. HLE is a serious Korean squad, not the kind of opponent you disrespect with a troll pick unless you’re very confident it isn’t a troll pick at all.
BrokenBlade’s history with the wolf
This wasn’t BrokenBlade’s first dance with Warwick at the competitive level. He previously piloted the champion in the top lane during LEC play, including a notable appearance against GiantX back in February 2025. That game marked one of the first high-profile uses of Warwick top since 2017, and it clearly served as a proving ground for what we saw at MSI.
BrokenBlade, born January 19, 2000, has been G2’s starting top laner with his contract running through November 2026.
