Gattuso appointed head coach of Lazio after leaving Italy national team role

1 hour ago 2

Gennaro Gattuso, one of Italian football’s most famously intense personalities, has been named head coach of SS Lazio on a two-year contract. The appointment was confirmed after an agreement reached around May 25-26, with Gattuso already present at the club’s training ground by June 3.

Gattuso’s path to the Lazio dugout runs through a rather uncomfortable exit from his previous job. He resigned as head coach of the Italian national team on April 3, following a playoff loss to Bosnia and Herzegovina that ended Italy’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Lazio, for their part, are parting ways with Maurizio Sarri, who is reportedly set to take over at Atalanta.

Lazio entered the digital asset world in 2021 when the club signed a jersey sponsorship deal with Binance and launched a fan token. At the time, fan tokens were having their moment. Sports clubs across Europe were jumping on the trend, offering supporters governance-lite perks like voting on minor club decisions in exchange for buying tokens on platforms like Socios.

There has been zero indication from recent media coverage that Gattuso’s appointment comes with any new crypto partnerships, token utility expansions, or digital asset initiatives attached to it.
