Google has agreed to pay £260 million, roughly $353 million, to settle a class-action lawsuit brought by UK app developers who accused the company of leveraging its dominant market position to extract an unfairly high commission on app sales. The proposed settlement, which still needs approval from the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT), covers developers who sold apps, subscriptions, or in-app content through the Google Play Store between August 2018 and July 2026. The original claim was valued at over £1 billion. Settling for roughly a third of that might sound like Google got a discount, but $353 million is still a significant check to write, and the company managed to do it without admitting any wrongdoing.
