Greek soldiers among suspects in alleged $8M crypto pyramid scheme

Greek police say a crypto investment platform promising to double your money in 50 days was really a pyramid scheme. Some of the people allegedly running it wore military uniforms. Authorities in Katerini arrested 17 people in a coordinated raid on September 30, 2026. Nine of them are military personnel, and two non-commissioned officers allegedly held leadership roles in the operation. The scheme reportedly collected approximately $8 million from around 10,000 participants. Its recruiting vehicle was allegedly an association for artificial intelligence enthusiasts, which is a very 2026 way to run a very old con. How the alleged scheme worked The pitch was simple and, in hindsight, a little too good. Participants were told they could double their investment in 50 days with minimal risk. The operation reportedly ran without a regulatory license. It leaned heavily on recruitment bonuses, paying participants for bringing in new investors.
