Liverpool reject Manchester City’s £80 million bid for Cody Gakpo

1 hour ago 2

Gakpo arrived at Liverpool in January 2023 from PSV Eindhoven, and his trajectory since has been a steady climb from promising signing to indispensable first-team fixture. He played a significant role in Liverpool’s 2024-25 Premier League title victory under manager Arne Slot, cementing himself as one of the league’s most versatile attacking threats.

That consistency earned him a long-term contract extension in August 2025.

Manchester City came calling, Liverpool said no

On August 31, 2026, Manchester City submitted an £80 million bid for the forward, and Liverpool rejected it.

Under current manager Andoni Iraola, Gakpo has continued to thrive. In Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town on September 4, 2026, Gakpo assisted both goals scored by teammate Alexander Isak.
