Manchester United is tracking Barcelona defensive midfielder Marc Casadó, adding another name to what’s shaping up to be an active summer transfer window. The 22-year-old Spanish international has fallen out of favor at Camp Nou and wants more playing time.
United might already be playing catch-up. AS Monaco is reportedly in advanced negotiations for Casadó, with a deal valued at around €18 million plus €5 million in performance-related add-ons. That brings the potential total to roughly €25 million, a figure that aligns with what Barcelona is hoping to receive.
Why Casadó wants out of Barcelona
Casadó, born September 14, 2003, has dropped to fifth choice in Barcelona’s midfield pecking order under manager Hansi Flick. For a player who’s already earned caps with the Spanish national team, sitting behind four other options isn’t exactly a career growth strategy.
Barcelona is keen to finalize his departure to help balance their financial books ahead of next season. The club currently has two offers on the table for the midfielder: one from a European club and another from a Saudi Arabian outfit. Neither has been formally accepted as of mid-June 2026, which means the situation remains genuinely open despite Monaco’s head start.
United’s position in the race
Manchester United has held discussions with Casadó’s representatives, which puts them beyond the casual interest phase but short of the finish line. Monaco has reportedly moved faster and further in negotiations, leaving United monitoring a target while a rival club edges closer to closing.
Chelsea and other Premier League clubs have also shown interest in the midfielder, which means even if Monaco’s deal falls through, United wouldn’t have a clear run at signing him.
The Saudi Arabian interest adds another layer. If a Saudi club comes in with a significantly higher offer, it could affect the European bids. But at 22, Casadó is likely prioritizing competitive football over financial packages, which would keep the race focused on European destinations.
No formal offer has been accepted from any party as of mid-June. The window is still open, and so is the race.
