Manchester United and Atalanta have reached a verbal agreement worth €45 million for Brazilian midfielder Éderson, with the deal now waiting on a second medical examination in the UK this week. The first round of medical checks took place in the United States while Éderson was on international duty at the 2026 World Cup, but the club wants a follow-up on home soil before ink hits paper.
If everything checks out, the 26-year-old becomes the first major signing under manager Michael Carrick’s permanent tenure at Old Trafford. The total package could climb as high as £50 million once performance-related add-ons are factored in.
The deal details
Éderson’s move from Atalanta has been in the works since early June 2026. The negotiations reportedly kicked off after a failed attempt to bring him in from a different club, with some reports pointing to an earlier approach involving Atlético Madrid.
The initial medical checks were conducted stateside while Éderson was representing Brazil at the World Cup. United’s medical staff wants a comprehensive second evaluation at the club’s facilities before committing to a deal of this magnitude.
The base fee sits at €45 million, which translates to roughly £38 million at current exchange rates. Add-ons tied to performance benchmarks could push the total to £50 million.
