Mistral AI builds strong ties with Macron ahead of election, raising questions about Europe’s AI future

When a three-year-old startup’s CEO gets private dinners at the presidential palace, you know the relationship has moved past the “just friends” stage. Mistral AI and France’s Emmanuel Macron have built the kind of partnership that most tech founders can only dream about, and it’s produced results that are hard to argue with. The Paris-based AI company has raised roughly €6 billion in equity since its founding in April 2023, including a mammoth €3 billion Series D round in September 2026 led by Samsung.
