Morgan Stanley says Bitcoin is 2% of global money supply, sees room to run

One of Wall Street’s most storied institutions just put a number on Bitcoin’s place in the global financial system. And that number is surprisingly small. Morgan Stanley’s Wealth Management division, through its Global Investment Office, published a framework assessing Bitcoin’s long-term return potential. The core finding: Bitcoin’s $2.2 trillion market cap as of October 2025 represents roughly 2% penetration into what the bank defines as a $130 trillion addressable market. That addressable market combines the global M2 money supply and gold, the two asset classes Bitcoin most directly competes with as a store of value.
