Elon Musk says Neuralink plans to implant its first experimental Blindsight devices within 6 to 12 months. If that happens, the company moves from helping paralyzed patients control computers to something more ambitious: trying to give blind people a form of sight. What Blindsight is supposed to do Blindsight tries to skip the camera and the cable entirely. The brain-computer interface aims to restore visual perception by stimulating the visual cortex directly. Blindsight targets people who are not suitable candidates for retinal or optic-nerve solutions. Musk announced on August 4, 2026 that human implants were planned within 6 to 12 months, contingent upon regulatory approval. As of late October 2026, no human implantation results for Blindsight have been publicly confirmed. Expect pixels, not panoramas Musk has described the initial resolution as akin to “Atari graphics” or “early Nintendo graphics.” The longer-term ambition is far bolder. The research findings describe the initial output as low-resolution but potentially evolving beyond natural human sight. The regulatory fast lane The device received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation on September 17, 2024. That designation i...
