OpenAI adds meetings plugin to ChatGPT for recording, transcripts, and AI-generated notes

OpenAI is steadily turning ChatGPT from a chatbot into something closer to a full productivity suite. The latest move: a native meetings plugin that lets users record meetings directly inside the app, then automatically generates transcripts, structured notes, and action items from the audio. The feature, often called Record mode, first rolled out in June 2025 for Team, Enterprise, and Education subscribers on the macOS desktop app. Plus users got access in July 2025. It uses OpenAI’s Whisper model for transcription, the same speech-to-text system that powers a growing chunk of the AI audio landscape. How the meetings plugin works The setup is straightforward. Users grant ChatGPT permissions for microphone and system audio access, hit record, and let the app capture whatever’s happening on the call. Recording sessions can run between 120 and 240 minutes depending on the plan and updates. Once the recording wraps, ChatGPT processes the audio through Whisper and produces a structured output.
