PSG has reportedly agreed to activate a £10 million release clause to bring Lucas Digne back to the Parc des Princes from Aston Villa. If completed, the deal would reunite the French defender with the club where he spent two seasons between 2016 and 2018, at a fraction of the price Villa originally paid for him.
The numbers behind the deal
The reported £10 million fee represents a steep discount compared to what Aston Villa paid to acquire Digne from Everton back in January 2022, when the deal was valued at up to £25 million. That’s a roughly 60% haircut on the original transfer fee.
Digne has been a consistent performer for Villa, racking up over 100 appearances since his arrival at Villa Park. He reportedly accepted reduced wages at some point to help the club comply with financial regulations.
Digne signed a contract extension with Aston Villa as recently as August 2025, extending his deal through 2028. That extension presumably included the release clause that PSG is now looking to trigger.
PSG’s fan token and the transfer economy
PSG’s $PSG fan token, launched on the Socios platform, gives holders voting rights on minor club decisions and access to exclusive rewards. Chiliz, the blockchain behind Socios, has expanded its partnerships across European football, and PSG remains one of the flagship partners in that ecosystem.
