Peter Thiel’s hedge fund just made one of its most dramatic portfolio pivots in recent memory. Thiel Macro completely exited its Nvidia position in the third quarter of 2025, cut its Tesla stake by 76%, and plowed the proceeds into Microsoft, a company that has returned roughly 347,000% since going public in March 1986. Microsoft now accounts for approximately 34% of Thiel Macro’s total portfolio. From chips to cloud Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform provides the infrastructure where AI models actually run at enterprise scale. And its Copilot integrations are embedding AI directly into products used by hundreds of millions of workers daily, from Excel spreadsheets to Teams meetings. Reducing the Tesla position by 76% reinforces this thesis. Tesla’s AI story, centered on autonomous driving and robotics, remains a longer-duration bet with significant execution risk.
