At Philippine Blockchain Week 2026, there were signs that some of those promises are becoming less theoretical. Across three days at the SMX Convention Center Manila, the conversation stretched from digital identity and government transparency to payments, tokenized bonds, self-custody wallets, and real-world assets. More interestingly, people could finally point to actual users. That matters for an industry that has spent much of the past decade talking about potential. One of the biggest examples is coming from the Philippine government. The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said blockchain is already supporting the country’s digital national ID infrastructure. “We already have 91 million digital national IDs.
