Qualcomm just told its customers to brace for sticker shock. The company announced on July 24 that it will raise smartphone processor prices by double-digit percentages, effective for all shipments after September 1, 2026. The culprit: rising supply-chain and component costs that have been squeezing chipmakers for the better part of two years. Qualcomm is the largest supplier of smartphone processors in the world, and its Snapdragon line powers the majority of premium Android devices. The numbers behind the squeeze Industry bill-of-materials costs rose between 10% and 30% during the 2025-2026 period. The flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 processor may now exceed $300 per unit, up from a prior range of $240 to $280. MediaTek, its chief rival in the mobile chip space, implemented price increases of 10% to 20% back in June 2026 under similar cost pressures. Wall Street’s reaction was tepid.
