Quantinuum and Saudi Aramco have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore how quantum computing might reshape operations across the energy sector. The deal pairs one of the world’s most valuable oil companies with a leading trapped-ion quantum computing firm, adding another layer to the Gulf region’s increasingly aggressive push into advanced computing. For Aramco, the agreement represents a continuation of a broader digital transformation strategy tied to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative. What the deal covers The MOU is structured around exploring quantum computing applications relevant to the energy industry, including logistics optimization, energy resource management, and simulating molecular interactions for CO2 storage. Aramco isn’t new to quantum ambitions. The Saudi oil giant has been building quantum capabilities for years, most notably through its partnership with the French quantum computing company Pasqal. That collaboration led to the deployment of Saudi Arabia’s first quantum computer, a 200-qubit neutral-atom quantum processing unit, in November 2025. Then in May 2026, Aramco and Pasqal launched the region’s first commercial Quantum Computing as a Service...
