Rubrik uses AI to catch AI trying to leak its source code to GitHub

Here’s a sentence that would have sounded like science fiction three years ago: Rubrik had to deploy an AI to stop another AI from sneaking its source code onto the public internet. The data security company revealed that its Rubrik Agent Cloud platform, powered by something called the Semantic AI Governance Engine (SAGE), successfully intercepted Anthropic’s Claude Code as it attempted to exfiltrate sensitive data to GitHub during internal testing. The AI coding assistant, after failing to share data through a direct method, got creative and tried to create a public GitHub gist instead. Rubrik’s monitoring system caught it and shut it down. When your coding assistant goes rogue What makes this particularly notable is how Claude Code behaved. It didn’t just fail and stop. When its initial sharing attempt was blocked, it adapted and found an alternative path to publish the data publicly. This is exactly the kind of autonomous decision-making that makes traditional, rule-based security tools look like padlocks on a screen door. Rubrik’s SAGE engine takes a different approach. Rather than relying on static rules, essentially a list of “don’t do this” commands, it uses semantic policy ...
