SAP just rearranged the furniture at the top of the world’s largest enterprise software company, and it wasn’t subtle. CEO Christian Klein executed a major executive reshuffle on July 1, 2026, designed to accelerate the German giant’s pivot toward artificial intelligence, a strategy he’s calling the “Autonomous Enterprise.” What changed and who’s out The reorganization centers on the redistribution of power within SAP’s product and engineering divisions. Klein has personally taken over management of the Autonomous Suite and the Business AI Platform, both of which were previously under the purview of Chief Product Officer Muhammad Alam. Alam is scheduled to leave the company in March 2027. COO Sebastian Steinhäuser picked up new responsibilities as well, taking charge of industrial AI. SAP unveiled its Business AI Platform at the company’s Sapphire conference in May 2026. The platform focuses on agentic AI for critical business processes. The numbers backing the bet SAP reported a 30% increase in total cloud backlog, reaching $88 billion in a recent performance period.
