Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has a new piece of advice for companies rolling out AI: treat the models like insider threats. Nadella’s core recommendation is simple. No single AI model should control both the actions it takes and the evidence used to verify those actions. If one system can do the work and also write its own report card, nobody is really checking anything. What Nadella is actually proposing The insider threat framing borrows from corporate security. Companies already plan for employees who have legitimate access but might misuse it. Nadella is arguing that autonomous AI agents belong in the same category. An AI agent wired into a company’s systems can reach sensitive enterprise data, just as a trusted staffer can.
