Yemen’s Houthi forces struck Saudi Aramco’s Jazan refinery on August 9, igniting a fire at one of the kingdom’s key processing facilities near the Yemen border. No casualties were reported, and the blaze was quickly contained. This is the second strike on the Jazan complex in roughly two weeks. A July 27 attack forced the refinery, which has a capacity of 400,000 barrels per day, to temporarily shut down operations entirely. A pattern of escalation The Jazan strikes are not isolated events. Throughout 2026, Houthi forces have targeted multiple critical Saudi energy sites, including the Abqaiq crude stabilization plant and facilities near Yanbu. Each attack has caused temporary shutdowns, though Saudi authorities have consistently maintained that no single incident has materially impacted the country’s overall oil production or financial standing. Aramco CEO Amin Nasser has publicly emphasized the company’s operational resilience.
