Tempo leads stablecoin market cap growth with $462M increase

Tempo, a Layer 1 blockchain incubated by Stripe and Paradigm, just posted one of the more striking stablecoin growth figures of the year. Its aggregate stablecoin market cap climbed approximately $450 million, or 161%, in a single week, bringing the total stablecoin supply on the chain to around $729 million, according to DefiLlama data. The catalyst was Open USD, or OUSD, a stablecoin that launched on Tempo on September 30, 2026. It now carries a market cap of approximately $471.72 million, representing roughly 64.7% of Tempo’s total stablecoin market. What OUSD brought to the table OUSD was designed with institutional users in mind from the start. Its reserves are held at BlackRock, Lead Bank, and BNY Mellon. The stablecoin charges zero fees to mint or redeem, imposes no volume caps, and launched with more than $400 million in liquidity across decentralized exchanges and other platforms. Partners already supporting access to OUSD include Coinbase, Stripe, and Visa, with Mastercard expected to follow. The other stablecoins on Tempo round out the picture.
