Tesla is rolling out a major integration of xAI’s Grok AI assistant into its vehicles, giving drivers voice-activated control over Spotify playback, phone calls, climate settings, and even the glovebox. The feature, arriving via the 2026.26 over-the-air software update, represents the most aggressive push yet to make Tesla’s in-car experience conversational rather than touchscreen-dependent. What Grok actually does in your Tesla The integration lets Tesla owners use natural voice commands to manage core vehicle functions. Say “Hey Grok” and you can queue up a Spotify playlist, dial a contact, crank the AC, or pop open the glovebox, all without touching the center screen. This isn’t Grok’s first appearance in Teslas. The AI assistant initially showed up in mid-2025, though it was limited to navigation commands. Earlier in 2026, Tesla added hands-free wake word activation with “Hey Grok” during a Spring update. The 2026.26 update is the one that meaningfully expands what Grok can actually do. There’s a hardware catch, though. Only AMD-equipped Teslas running software version 2025.26 or newer qualify.
