Torino submits official bid for Ben Nelson, rejected by Leicester City

Ben Nelson wants out of Leicester City. Torino wants him in Serie A. Leicester, for now, is standing in the way.

Torino FC has submitted a formal bid for the 22-year-old defender, which Leicester City has rejected. The English club is holding firm on a valuation in the €6-7 million range, while Torino has been pushing for a lower fee.

He has turned down a new contract offer from Leicester, making clear that he wants a move.

Who is Ben Nelson?

Nelson joined Leicester City at age nine, which makes him about as close to a homegrown product as the club can claim. He made his senior debut for Leicester in August 2023, and his contract runs until June 2027 after he signed an extension in December 2023.

He’s a former England youth international at both Under-20 and Under-21 level.

At 22, born on March 18, 2004, Nelson sits in that interesting transfer market sweet spot. Old enough to have senior experience, young enough to carry significant sell-on value, and priced at a range that most mid-tier European clubs can realistically stretch to reach.

Torino kicked off formal negotiations in mid-to-late June 2026. As of early July, no agreement has been reached.

Why Leicester’s position is complicated

Leicester rejected the bid, and on paper that makes sense. A player under contract until 2027 gives the club the right to demand fair market value.

Nelson has already said no to a new deal. The €6-7 million asking price isn’t outrageous for a player with Nelson’s profile, but if Torino is bidding meaningfully below that and Nelson isn’t going to sign a new deal regardless, Leicester faces a choice: accept less than they want now, or risk getting even less when the contract situation becomes more urgent.

Leicester has been navigating a challenging period, bouncing between the Premier League and the Championship, and is currently operating under financial pressures related to Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), which has prompted the club to consider sales in the summer transfer window of 2026.

What this means for the transfer

Given that Torino has already submitted a formal bid, they’re clearly serious. The Italian club has put a number on the table, taken the rejection, and is presumably still at the negotiating table.

Nelson’s ambition for more regular first-team football appears to be influencing his decision-making, as he weighs the prospect of a move to Torino, where playing opportunities may be more readily available.

The next few weeks should be telling. Watch for whether Torino sharpens their offer, whether Leicester adjusts their valuation, or whether a third club enters the picture to complicate things further.
