Tottenham Hotspur prepares significant offer for Cody Gakpo as De Zerbi reshapes squad

Tottenham Hotspur is preparing a substantial bid for Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, with reports suggesting the north London club could table an offer reaching as high as £73.5 million.

De Zerbi, who was appointed Tottenham head coach on March 31, 2026, on a five-year deal, is turning his attention to squad reshaping after successfully navigating the club through a fraught end to the 2025-26 Premier League season.

What’s on the table

Reports from early to mid-June 2026 indicate Tottenham has opened talks around an offer ranging from £60 million to €85 million for Gakpo. The package being discussed reportedly includes a long-term contract for Gakpo that could extend until 2031, along with a prominent role in De Zerbi’s system. De Zerbi has been described as a long-time admirer of the Dutch international.

No formal transfer has been executed as of late June 2026.

Why Gakpo, and why now

Gakpo joined Liverpool in January 2023 and still has significant time left on his contract, which runs until June 2030. Arne Slot’s recent departure from the Liverpool managerial role has created uncertainty around Gakpo’s future at Anfield. Gakpo hasn’t formally requested a transfer, but he’s reportedly open to exploring new opportunities.

Liverpool’s position appears to be straightforward: they’ll entertain offers that meet their valuation. The reported range of £60 million to £73.5 million is wide enough to suggest the two clubs haven’t yet found common ground. In a market where premium attackers routinely command fees north of £80 million, Liverpool has little incentive to accept anything below their valuation, particularly with four years of contract leverage still in hand.
