US and E3 push to report Iran to UN Security Council at upcoming IAEA meeting

The United States, France, Germany, and the UK are preparing a resolution at next week’s IAEA Board of Governors meeting that could escalate Iran’s nuclear standoff to the UN Security Council. The meeting, scheduled for September 7-11 in Vienna, represents a sharp diplomatic confrontation over Tehran’s nuclear program. At the center of the dispute: approximately 440 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60% purity that international inspectors cannot verify. The IAEA has called the situation a “matter of proliferation concern.” What’s actually happening A previous resolution passed on June 10, 2026, with 21 votes in favor, 3 against (Russia, China, and Niger), and 10 abstentions. That resolution demanded Iran hand over detailed information on its nuclear material inventories and grant immediate access for IAEA verification teams. Iran did neither.
