Venezia FC is in active negotiations to sign Japanese international defender Takehiro Tomiyasu on a three-year deal, with a meeting between the club and the player’s representatives expected within the week of July 13, 2026. The 27-year-old became a free agent after his half-season contract with Ajax expired on June 30, making him one of the more intriguing names available on the open market this summer.
The deal on the table
Venezia, which competes in Italy’s top-flight Serie A, is offering Tomiyasu a three-year contract. The club appears to be moving with urgency, scheduling face-to-face discussions with the defender’s camp imminently.
Tomiyasu isn’t short on suitors. Sassuolo is also monitoring his situation, which means Venezia will need to move decisively if it wants to close this deal.
The defender’s resume speaks for itself. He previously played for Bologna in Serie A before making the jump to Arsenal in the Premier League, where he signed a contract extension in March 2024 that ran through 2026. His stint at Ajax was a short-term arrangement, a half-season deal that served as a bridge while he sorted out his next long-term destination.
