Anthropic is putting $100 million behind a plan to train 10,000 engineers who can actually get AI working inside large companies. The program is called the Claude Frontier Academy, and it was announced on October 2, 2026. A residency, but for software The Academy’s core offering is the Frontier Deployed Engineer Residency. As the name suggests, it is modeled on the way doctors are trained. The program has three stages. Participants start with multi-day, in-person training. They then move through simulated enterprise deployments, practice runs designed to mirror the mess of a real corporate rollout. The final stage is a 12-week residency. During that stretch, engineers lead actual Claude projects inside their own organizations. Graduates will earn credentials. The first two badges, Claude Resident Engineer and Claude Frontier Deployed Engineer, are expected to arrive in early 2027. The overall goal is to train 10,000 Frontier Deployed Engineers, or FDEs, by the end of 2027.
