Bill Gates, once among the more measured voices on artificial intelligence risks, has published a lengthy essay warning that AI could trigger “one of the most chaotic periods in history” without immediate intervention from governments and tech companies alike. The essay, titled “The turbulent AI era is here. The choices we make now are critical,” landed on Gates’ personal blog on August 26. At roughly 6,000 words, it reads less like a blog post and more like a policy manifesto from someone who clearly thinks the window for action is closing fast.
